Weddell as the third largest island in the Falklands has most of the Falklands species plus some occasional visitors from South America; in the last nine years, 54 species of birds have been seen on Weddell.
There are many land and sea birds on Weddell Island including Gentoo and Magellanic penguins and all of the raptor species found in the Falklands including the striated and crested caracara. Birding starts from the moment you land and continues all the time you are on the island, walking round the settlement or even looking out the window!
The maximum number of species spotted in one trip within 2.5 miles of the settlement is 33 – come and beat this!
